How to use

Pick a barcode symbology from the format dropdown, then type your payload. The live preview validates your input against the rules of the chosen format and re-renders instantly. If the value is not valid for that symbology (for example, letters in an EAN-13 code), the preview flags it and offers a valid sample you can start from.

Choosing the right symbology

For general-purpose alphanumeric data, Code 128 is the modern standard — compact and reliable. For consumer retail products, EAN-13 (Europe/global) and UPC-A (North America) are the required formats and must be registered with GS1 before use on real products. EAN-8 is the shorter variant for small packaging.

ITF-14 encodes shipping-carton GTINs, while Codabar still appears in libraries, blood banks and logistics. For internal tracking that never leaves your organization, Code 39 is a simple, forgiving choice that prints well on entry-level thermal printers.

Barcode vs QR code

Use a 1D barcode when a scanner or point-of-sale system expects one, or when you are encoding a short product identifier. If you instead need to encode a URL, Wi-Fi credentials or a vCard for phone cameras to scan, the QR Code Generator is the better fit — 2D QR codes hold far more data and scan reliably from a phone.
