User Guide

How to use this tool

The JPG to PNG converter transforms lossy JPEG photographs into lossless PNG files entirely inside your browser. It is ideal whenever you need transparency support, sharper text edges, cleaner UI screenshots, or a pristine master copy that can be re-edited without accumulating compression artifacts.

How to use it

Drop a JPG (or a batch of JPG files) into the upload zone, or click to browse from disk. You can also paste an image directly from your clipboard. The tool decodes the file with the browser image pipeline, redraws it onto an off-screen canvas, and then re-encodes the pixels using the PNG lossless codec.

A preview of the converted image will appear next to the original. Because PNG is lossless, no additional quality slider is required — the output is a perfect pixel replica of the source. Click the Download button to save the file with a .png extension.

  • Preserves every pixel exactly — no generation loss
  • Adds a transparent alpha channel that JPG cannot store
  • Works for logos, screenshots, UI mockups and diagrams
  • Runs 100% locally: your images never leave the device

Tips for best results

PNG files are usually 2—× larger than the source JPG because they store every pixel losslessly. If file size matters (for example, when serving pages on the public web), consider using our WebP or AVIF converters instead — both offer transparency and dramatically smaller file sizes.

If you are converting scans or photos that already contain visible JPEG artifacts, the PNG version will preserve those artifacts, not remove them. Re-shoot or re-scan when possible before converting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the PNG have transparency?

The output is an RGBA PNG, but JPG has no alpha, so pixels start fully opaque. Add transparency with our background tools afterwards.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless and stores every pixel. For web delivery, follow up with our WebP or AVIF converter for smaller files.

Is converting JPG to PNG lossless?

Yes. PNG is a lossless format, so every pixel from the decoded JPG is preserved exactly. However, any JPEG compression artifacts already present in the source image will remain.

Can I convert multiple JPG files at once?

Yes. Drag or select multiple JPG files in the upload zone and they will all be converted to PNG simultaneously. Each file is processed independently in your browser.

What is the maximum file size?

The maximum upload size is 40MB per image. Since processing happens in your browser, larger files may take a few extra seconds depending on your device.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. This tool is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and no daily limits. All processing runs locally in your browser.

Does the tool upload my JPG anywhere?

No. The conversion happens locally inside your browser tab and no bytes are transmitted to any server.
