How to use this tool

HEIC (High-Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on modern iPhones and iPads. While it saves storage on-device, HEIC is not universally supported outside the Apple ecosystem. This tool converts a HEIC or HEIF image into a standard JPEG file that works everywhere — inside your browser, with no cloud uploads.

How to use it

Drop a single .heic or .heif file onto the upload zone. The tool loads a small WebAssembly-powered HEIC decoder on demand, extracts the primary image at full resolution, and re-encodes it as a JPEG that any operating system, browser, CMS, or messaging platform can display.

Once conversion completes, download the JPG. The original filename is preserved with a .jpg extension so you can easily match it back to the source photo. To convert another file, choose "Choose another".

Where HEIC comes from

By default, iPhones running iOS 11 or later capture photos in HEIC. When you AirDrop those photos to a non-Apple device, upload to a Windows PC, or send them through email/CMS pipelines, many tools cannot render them.

To stop capturing HEIC in the first place, go to Settings → Camera → Formats on iOS and choose "Most Compatible". New photos will then be saved as JPEG directly.

Why can't others open my HEIC?

HEIC is Apple's default since iOS 11 — Windows 10/11 needs an extension; JPG is universal.

Does it preserve Live Photos or depth maps?

Only the still JPG is produced; the embedded depth/Live data is left in the original HEIC.

What is HEIC format?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default image format since iOS 11. It uses HEVC compression to produce images roughly half the size of equivalent JPG files while maintaining higher quality.

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows 10 (version 1809+) and Windows 11 can open HEIC with the HEIF Image Extension from the Microsoft Store. Older Windows versions require conversion to JPG, which this tool does in your browser.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is lossy, so there is some quality reduction, but at 85%+ quality the difference is nearly invisible to the human eye. The conversion also embeds EXIF orientation data so rotated photos appear correctly.

Does the tool support HEIC videos?
