What is Rotate & Flip Image?

Rotate any angle, flip horizontally / vertically. Rotate by arbitrary degrees or flip horizontally/vertically. Fix portrait/landscape orientation or mirror a photo for layout. A re-oriented image with the same or configurable background fill.

All processing happens locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server.

Key Features

  • 90°/180°/270° quick buttons plus free rotation slider
  • Horizontal and vertical flip
  • Choose background color for rotation gaps

Common Use Cases

  • Correcting orientation of portrait/landscape photos taken with tilted cameras
  • Flipping product images for mirrored or comparative views
  • Rotating scanned documents that were captured sideways
User Guide

How to use this tool

The Rotate & Flip Image tool applies precise geometric transforms to any picture. Rotate by any angle from -180° to 180°, flip horizontally to correct mirror-selfie orientation, or flip vertically for artistic effects — all rendered instantly in the browser preview.

How to use it

Drop an image onto the upload zone. Use the quick-rotate buttons (90° left, 90° right, flip H, flip V) for common operations. For fine control, drag the angle slider between -180° and 180°; the canvas expands automatically to fit the rotated result without cropping the corners.

Transforms compose in real time, so you can rotate then flip then rotate again. When you are done, download the result as a PNG.

  • Quick-action buttons for 90° rotation and horizontal/vertical flips
  • Precise 1° angle slider for fine tuning
  • Auto-expanding canvas prevents corner clipping
  • Composable transforms with instant preview

Correcting orientation problems

Photos taken on smartphones are often stored with an EXIF orientation flag rather than physically rotated pixels. When rendering pipelines ignore that flag, the image appears sideways or upside down. Rotating and re-saving through this tool bakes the correct orientation into the pixels themselves.

For scanned documents that are only slightly tilted, use the fine-angle slider to nudge the correction in 1° increments until the horizontals are level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will EXIF orientation be respected?

Images with EXIF orientation are auto-rotated on load so you start upright.

Is there a quality loss from rotation?

90/180/270° are lossless; arbitrary angles require re-encoding.

Can I rotate by an arbitrary angle?

Yes. Use 90-degree presets for quick orientation or enter a custom angle (0–360 degrees). A grid overlay helps align the horizon.

Does flipping reduce quality?

Flipping horizontally or vertically rearranges pixels without re-compression, so there is zero generation loss. Rotation may require re-encoding.

Will EXIF orientation be preserved?

The tool applies the rotation visually and strips the old EXIF orientation tag, so the output always appears correctly without relying on metadata.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. This tool is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and no daily limits. All processing runs locally in your browser.

Why do 90° rotations produce a larger canvas?

The output canvas always fits the rotated image without cropping, which changes its width and height for non-90° angles.

Is quality preserved after rotation?

Yes for 90/180/270° rotations. Arbitrary angles introduce sub-pixel interpolation, which is negligible for photographs.
